KIVA

Kiva is an absolutely addictive way of doing good!  Make microloans to entrepreneurs around the world to improve the lives of the individual, their family, their community, and ultimately THE WORLD!

Loans can be as small as $25, and are paid back over time.  Microloans have a really high rate of repaid, because borrowers know that their loans are being funded by real people.

At the kiva etsy team we are all crafters, so most members make loans to other creative business people.  YOU should loan to people involved in whatever you are interested in.  If you have visited a region, and been struck by the poverty- loan there.  If you are especially concerned about the welfare of women- loan to women.  If you love candy- loan to a candy store!

Here is the most recent borrower that I chose: (copied from http://www.kiva.org/):

Alicia has been working with NOVICA since 2008. This is the story of the group she helped found:

The Manuela Ramos Movement came to life in Peru in 1978. The group contributes to the development and strengthening of women's skills and abilities with a view to promoting and exercising their civil and human rights. The group uses ancestral techniques in the creation of a broad range of hand-knitted and crocheted alpaca accessories.
